Abstract: |
An archaeological watching brief was undertaken during groundwork for a housing development. The site lay to the east of the Middle Saxon town of Hamwic and prehistoric finds had been recovered in the vicinity. Two un-diagnostic worked flints from a layer of disturbed brickearth perhaps pointed to low key human activity during the prehistoric period. All other features were probably associated with a terrace of 19th century houses that previously occupied the site. No evidence for Saxon Hamwic was found. [Au(adp)] |
