Abstract: |
There were no records of any previous archaeological survey of the development area, although Newburn and the immediate vicinity played an important part in the early history of the region being the first Borough upstream from Newcastle Upon Tyne, and was the site of the 1640 Battle of Newburn on Tyne. It was recommended that a watching brief be undertaken during groundworks to check for the presence of a possible Civil War burial ground and other post-medieval structures. [AIP] |
