Abstract: |
An excavation on the proposed development site, followed the results of earlier work. This lies in the proximity of a deserted medieval village. Deposits of considerable archaeological importance were recovered including well preserved buried structures representing a previously unknown phase of occupation on the site. Field evidence suggests that these buildings were subsumed beneath an agricultural phase in the mid-14th century represented by a ridge and furrow system. A considerably sized artefactual assemblage included pottery from the 12th to 14th centuries, and the 17th to the late 18th centuries. This included both local and imported material. [Au(abr)] |
