Abstract: |
<summary>A desk-based assessment supported by preliminary field survey was undertaken for an area containing remains of 19th century and later mining, which was subject to proposed shaft-capping and land reclamation works. The survey identified that the area around Basset Stamps was formerly thick with dressing floor buildings, buddles, tanks, ponds, sheds and other features. However, dump removal had destroyed most of the upstanding remains except in one area around the engine house and vanner house, where a coherent group of buildings remained. Sites of 17 shafts were identified during the documentary survey, although only two could be identified on the ground. {italon}AIP{italoff} |
