Abstract: |
An archaeological evaluation consisting of trial trenching was undertaken on the site of the proposed Bus Station development. This revealed little archaeology as the rear of the site had been comprehensively destroyed by post-medieval buildings, and the front half through levelling. Undisturbed subsoil survived in the northern half of the site under post-medieval garden soils and modern deposits but apart from very occasional medieval finds there was no evidence of occupation earlier than the 17th century.
