Abstract: |
A watching brief was carried out during intrusive works relating to the construction of a new toilet block adjacent to a public house, at a site which lay within the medieval walled city of Norwich, at the periphery of the late Saxon town. Victorian make-up cut by a later Victorian rubbish pit overlay a layer of gravel, which may have represented a post-medieval yard surface associated with earlier use of the present Horse and Dray buildings. A small post-medieval brick culvert was observed. It was concluded that the lowest material encountered could have masked medieval or earlier cut features or structural remains which could survive at lower levels. [AIP] |
