Abstract: |
As part of the on-going archaeological monitoring of soil stripping a visit was made to Wangford Quarry. Although no features of archaeological interest were identified, several large fragments from a single handmade pottery vessel were collected. The pottery was identified as representing part of a plain bowl, pierced under the rim and was Neolithic in date. Pottery with some similarities had previously been recovered from Hurst Fen and Mildenhall. Manual cleaning around the findspot failed to identify as associated feature while the presence of vegetation and topsoil within the soil matrix around some of the sherds suggested they had been disturned during machining.
