Abstract: |
Six mine shafts were identified as requiring capping by Kerrier District Council. The shafts lay within the 19th century sett of South Carn Brea Mine, though some must have predated the main documented period of operation of this undertaking. The shafts lay within an area of exceptionally rich archaeology dating from the Neolithic to the mid-19th century and covering a wide spread of activities. It was recommended that all possible steps should be taken to avoid any disturbance of the ground surface, and where this was impossible, detailed archaeological investigation and recording might be required.
