Abstract: |
The desk-based assessment for the proposed residential development demonstrated that archaeological remains were known in the vicinity and that there was the possibility of similar deposits within the site. The site was situated within the medieval village of Twycross, adjacent to the Church and churchyard of St James and the site of a medieval moat and fishponds. There was therefore the possibility of medieval activity, perhaps including burials, and also earlier Saxon archaeological remains within the zone of proposed development. Map evidence indicated that the site itself had not been substantially developed since 1852 and previous buildings were unlikely to have had deep foundations. This suggested that any remains might have been preserved beneath the present ground surface. [Au(adp)] |
