Abstract: |
Despite the comparatively shallow nature of the foundation trenches associated with this project, each clearly demonstrated the presence of archaeological remains just beneath the ground surface. The earliest cut features on this site consist of two, probable rubbish or cesspits, which appear to date from the mid to late 13th century. The discovery of two early medieval rubbish/cesspits to the rear of the existing property, which lay well back from the present road frontage, suggests that any possible related medieval structures that may have survived were very likely to be located close to the road frontage of Fairfield Road.
