Abstract: |
An evaluation was carried out at two separate sites along a route proposed for road improvements. Earlier desk-top study and a walkover survey had identified the presence of a slight earthwork at a site where a cottage was marked on a tithe map of 1842, and an area of linear earthworks which probably represented medieval ridge and furrow. During evaluation of the former site, structural elements of the cottage were revealed, including a drystone wall or foundation. These were associated with 18th or 19th century artefacts. At the second site, the undulations of the ridge and furrow were found to be barely discernible beneath the surface. No artefacts were recovered. [AIP] |
