Abstract: |
The evaluation identified the presence of a Late Bronze Age/Early Iron Age settlement within a ditched (palisade?) enclosure. The settlement had peripheral occupation on both sides of the main enclosure. On the eastern side of the settlement, a number of features suggested settlement activity on a smaller scale. Material recorded within the area implied that a smaller ditched enclosure was present, perhaps forming a prehistoric style of ribbon development. Of the finds analysed that were not of Late Bronze Age/Early Iron Age types, a Neolithic arrowhead was present which may have indicated hunting loss or perhaps that the Late Bronze Age settlement was simply the latest occupation of a site first occupied during the Neolithic period.
