Abstract: |
An archaeological watching brief was carried out at the site. Stone and brick walls and probable floors were uncovered, and were likely to have been associated with cellars of the former structures on the site. These included early to mid 19th century housing and small metal trades works, demolished in the 1930s. In the mid 1940s a factory was built and the external wall has now formed the boundary of the car park. The factory was demolished in 1995-2001. Two sandstone grinding stones were uncovered. The survival of walls and floor layers indicated that substantial subsurface remains of the 19th century buildings survived across the site. [Au(adp)] |
