Abstract: |
A scheme of archaeological evaluation was carried out in advance of a planning application for residential development. Nine evaluation trenches were excavated and a standing outbuilding was the subject of a building investigation. An earthwork survey of extant earthwork ridge and furrow was also undertaken. While no below-ground remains earlier than the 18th century were encountered, the evaluation revealed that substantial structures from the 19th century steam mill still survived. The building investigation confirmed that the standing outbuilding predated the present house and may have dated to the 18th century. [Au(abr)] |
