Abstract: |
The assessment identified that the prison site was occupied by a former army camp and ordnance depot dating from 1941, although this was not considered to be of archaeological significance. Geotechnical data indicated that this site had some potential for palaeochannels. A proposed roundabout site contained a cropmark representing a possible medieval plough headland. Large numbers of cropmarks thought to represent medieval and post-medieval features had been recorded in the surrounding area. The third of the proposal areas lay along Moreton Lane. It was thought that there was a potential for features to be found in the vicinity of Moreton itself, which may have had Saxon origins. [AIP] |
