Abstract: |
The evaluation revealed a concentration of pits and post holes at the eastern end of the site and other features were identified around the site periphery. The findings suggested an Early Iron Age farmstead (perhaps extending back into the Late Bronze Age/Early Iron Age transition) which lay in the saddleback between Rape Hill and Thistle Hill. Features in other areas may have represented scattered outliers although there was a possibility of other nuclei, particularly beneath the road easement to the north. The little pottery recovered also suggested possible Romano-Belgic and Saxo-Norman activity. [Au] |
