Abstract: |
An archaeological evaluation consisting of four trenches and a brief documentary of the proposed Heritage Centre site at Bossiney Road, Tintagel was undertaken. In trench 1, the westernmost trench, a possible east-west aligned medieval roadside boundary ditch was revealed. The remaining ditches were archaeologically sterile, revealing only modern services and undisturbed natural subsoil. The evaluation suggested that the site lay at the edge of the planned medieval borough of Trevena-Tintagel, and that in historical times it had always been used for agricultural purposes. The project therefore helped to clarify the extent of the medieval town. Further work in the form of watching briefs was recommended during future development on the site. [Au] |
