Abstract: |
The watching brief was carried out on two separate occasions, 26/02/03 and the 11/05/04 in advance of two extensions on the front and rear of the house. Two sub-circular features, possibly cess or rubbish pits were located in the base of the south-western trench to the rear of the house. These were sealed by a deposits containing medieval pottery sherds dated to AD 1250-1325, later sealed by a yard surface. The front of the property also had two pit type features, possibly of similar use to the rear two. The pits suggested that there may have been a medieval property in the vicinity of the site. Therefore any future development along the Fairfield Road frontage should have been subject to a watching brief as a minimum level of recording. [Au(adp)] |
