Abstract: |
Nine evaluation trenches were excavated in advance of development for warehousing and light industry. Five of the trenches examined anomalies seen by a geophysical survey. Three trenches examined geophysically blank areas, whilst the remaining trench spanned the entire width of the site in order to intercept the possible course of the Norton Three Dikes, a prehistoric land boundary which was thought to pass through the site, but was not identified by the geophysical survey. Only in trench seven an anomaly proved to be of man-made origin and was a recent limestone filled field drain. Trench three revealed a shallow ditch or furrow. There were no traces of the Norton Three Dikes. [Au(adp)] |
