Abstract: |
A watching brief was carried out during demolition and excavation work in advance of the construction of a residential extension. Palaeolithic handaxes and other tools had been found to the east, south and south-east of the site. During the first of two site visits, the remains of walls were observed. Investigation of cartographic sources revealed that the 1912 Ordnance Survey map showed a large building adjoining the rear of Burch's Barn, occupying almost the whole of the development area. During the second site visit, it was observed that the building seen on the map had removed any potential archaeological material from the area. [AIP] |
