Abstract: |
A desk-based assessement, supported by preliminary field survey, of land proposed for reclamation works on former mine workings and related sites within the Tolskithy Valley was undertaken. A number of phases of copper mining were documented here comprising a short phase of working commencing in the early 1580's, a second phase in the early 18th century leading to more extensive, but relatively unprofitable, working in the 19th and early 20th centuries. Fifty-two extant features were identified during the survey and included a number of chimneys, dressing floors, shafts, an arsenic labyrinth, bridges, an engine house, and other building sites.
