Abstract: |
Ten trial trenches were excavated to investigate the presence of archaeological deposits, to consider the survival of river frontage land-use and particularly to investigate the location of a putative early river-crossing. No archaeological remains were found in any of the trenches. The absence of any Roman or medieval finds suggested that the area had been used as meadow land, which was unlikely to have been manured.
