Abstract: |
A desk-based assessment of a proposed development site which was occupied by a Grade II Listed Building was undertaken. The building, Milford House, dated from 1730, but had been gutted by fire in 1983. Sites of archaeological interest recorded in the surrounding area included findspots of Neolithic arrowheads, Iron Age pottery and a Roman coin, two Mesolithic flint scatters, two post-medieval dovecotes and the sites of two mills. It was concluded that the site had some potential for Mesolithic and Neolithic remains, and for in situ post-medieval garden features. It was considered that the recovery of the plan of these would make a significant addition to the known history of the house. [AIP] |
