Abstract: |
A watching brief was undertaken during the construction of a rear extension to an existing house. Stratified deposits were located behind the building. These deposits appeared to have represented a succession of clay floors relating to a building. The lack of datable finds was singularly unhelpful and from the available evidence it remained unclear whether the floors formed part of an outhouse or rear range associated with an early phase of the standing structure, or whether they belonged to an earlier building that occupied this site.
