Abstract: |
The evaluation comprised 3 mechanically excavated trenches. A large ditch of possible medieval or post-medieval date was discovered in the first of the three trenches. The second trench was characterised by shallow, recent deposits directly overlying truncated natural chalk. The third trench contained a number of features cut into the subsoil, but these were of uncertain date. It was also observed that the farmyard contained an unusually large number of sarsen boulders and coarse masonry fragments as part of the present surface and immediately beneath ground level, perhaps indicating the former presence of stone structures within the area being evaluated.
