Abstract: |
The construction of an effluent pipeline was proposed within an area of land on the Avon Levels, an area of high archaeological potential and importance. The route of the pipeline was archaeologically assessed using documentary sources as well as a small observation exercise during the excavation of geotechnical pits. The route of the pipeline was seen to affect one known archaeological site, the remains of a medieval farmstead, Washingpool Farm. The route was also located through areas of ridge and furrow, a droveway and various field hedges and drainage ditches. The potential was also recognised for the survival of prehistoric and later deposits within bands of peat. [AIP] |
