Abstract: |
An archaeological field evaluation was undertaken on land that lay close to the historic core of Bengeworth and believed to have been developed as burghage plots in the medieval period. Part of the site was used as a graveyard by the Society of Friends from the 17th to 19th centuries. The site contained extensive, well preserved, stratified deposits of great archaeological significance. The deposits included both late mesolithic, significant due to the fact that it was the first site of this period to have been identified within the town, and medieval occupation. The assemblages of artefactual and ecofactual material had the potential to throw considerable light on the social and economic conditions in the medieval town. [AIP] |
