Abstract:
The watching brief was carried out during the construction of a three-storey building containing 13 flats. The site lay close to the known medieval settlement of Kingston. There was no evidence for medieval or early post-medieval development on the site. A late chalk surface could have represented a yard associated with Swann Farm, a historic farmstead, and was late post-medieval in date due to the brick fragments located underneath the surface. On the south of the site was a brick house with more extensive cellaring than that found on the site of terraced housing erected c. AD 1900 on the Kingston Road frontage. [Au(adp)]
