Abstract: |
A watching brief on the groundworks associated with the development of low-cost housing on the site of the former school. Only one feature was recognised, a pit containing a horse burial. A mixed layer beneath the topsoil showed dumping of soil from elsewhere, possibly from the cutting of the railway line. The horse deposit may also date to this period or later. The chalk bedrock was encountered irregularly, suggesting that it was subject to chalk extraction. [AIP] |
