Abstract: |
An evaluation was carried out at the proposed site of a residential development. Desk-based study established that the village of Little Weldon had Saxon origins and was mentioned in the Domesday Book, and that the area was known to have been a centre for iron-working and stone-working during the medieval and post-medieval periods. The proposal site had lain within open ground since at least the late 16th century. The trial excavation revealed no evidence of ancient remains. A small amount of medieval pottery and slag and two post-medieval sherds were recovered. [Au(adp)] |
