Abstract: |
<summary>11 trenches were excavated in advance of development. 14 features were identified, representing two discrete sites. Site 1 contained a substantial V-shaped ditch, a curvilinear feature which probably formed one side of a substantial ditched enclosure, possibly dating to the Neolithic or Early Bronze Age. Site 2 was a small, Early Iron Age settlement site containing gullies, pits and pottery. A prehistoric pit and what was probably the shaft of a medieval (or later) well were also uncovered. It seemed likely that other prehistoric evidence would be present on the site since most of the trenches produced struck and fire-cracked flint. A further feature recorded was a pebble layer which had been laid in a hollow. {italon}AIP{italoff} |
