Abstract: |
<summary>A desk-based study, supported by preliminary field reconnaissance, to assess the archaeological implications of proposed mineral extraction at Stapleford Wood was undertaken. Features of archaeological interest identified within the proposal area included: a low boundary bank, possibly pre-dating the plantation, with the county boundary to the south marked by a wide and deep water-filled ditch; earthworks including at least two ditched enclosures and a number of banks and ditches of pre-plantation date; and two sets of recent structures of unknown function. Crop mark complexes were also noted on land adjacent to the proposed development area.
