Abstract: |
Three trenches were excavated to evaluate the implications of the routing of a transfer main along a verge adjacent to the Golf Course in Kingston road and Kingsgate, located just outside the scheduled area of the deserted medieval village of Hilderthorpe (SAM 151). The evaluation demonstrated that while archaeological remains in the form of ridge and furrow earthworks and field ditches were recognisable within these trenches, modern servics intruded significantly into the verge, particularly on Kingston Road.
