Abstract: |
A desk-based assessment of the proposed site of a link road and a residential development was undertaken. A post-medieval mine shaft had previously been recorded at the site, whilst a moated site and two Grade II Listed Buildings lay nearby. Field inspection of the site revealed several possible medieval features, including a possible droveway, ponds, trackways and fragments of field boundaries. Post-medieval features included further mine shafts, the sites of several lost rural houses, an 18th century laithe house, colliery infill and a 19th-20th century reservoir. Archaeological evaluation and survey work was recommended. [Au(adp)] |
