Abstract: |
A desk-based study of land proposed for housing development to the east of Lincoln Road identified that the site lay within an area occupied by an extensive Anglo-Saxon cemetery, adjacent to an important Roman road, and set within a broad zone where a significant density of prehistoric cropmark and other sites were known to exist. However, evidence of extensive quarrying within and around the proposed development site was suggested as having probably obliterated or substantially truncated archaeological remains on a site which was otherwise of archaeological high potential. Further work was suggested as being necessary to identify areas of archaeological survival as the precise location and depth of quarrying was unidentified. [Au(adp)] |
