Abstract: |
This report presents the results of a desk-based assessment of the archaeological potential of an area of land which lay on the west bank of the River Great Ouse, to the east of Margetts Farm. The research revealed little of archaeological significance within the study area, other than the ploughed-out remains of medieval ridge and furrow and a possible field boundary or track, all of which were observed on aerial photographs. Despite the dearth of known archaeology in the study area, the density of sites and find spots in the immediate locality of the River Great Ouse certainly suggested a strong potential for further archaeological remains concealed beneath superficial geological deposits and later agricultural features. Cropmarks, findspots and previous excavation s in the vicinity of the study area provided evidence of extensive activity from the Bronze Age to Romano-British periods. [Au(abr)] |
