Abstract: |
Of the archaeological remains recorded, three were pits and of these only one was fully excavated. No conclusive dating material was retrieved from these features, but it seemed likely that at least one of them was medieval. Due to the limited scope of the excavation, a large feature was not fully understood in terms of extent, depth and nature. Systematic dumping along the foreshore appeared to have occurred, probably during the medieval period, as a form of land-reclamation, on which subsequently a large wall was constructed. The purpose of this wall was unknown and it was tentatively dated from the medieval period. Associated surfaces, such as cobbling, were evident on the northern side, but were not recorded to the southern front side of the wall. [Au(adp)] |
