Abstract: |
The watching brief was undertaken during the construction of a new twin pipe tank sewer. Two cut features were identified during the stripping and construction of the main pipeline. The first consisted of a shallow drainage ditch apparently of recent origin on the line of a recently removed field boundary. The second feature was an irregular pit, which appeared to be of post-medieval origin and contained an assortment of timber off-cuts. The timbers were principally axe or adze worked, but at least one appeared to be sawn. The results of pollen analysis showed a well-preserved sequence apparently deposited between the Neolithic and Late Bronze Age or Early Iron Age. Cereal type pollen was recovered throughout the sequence. [Au(abr)] |
