Abstract: |
Cornwall Archaeological Unit was contacted by English Heritage to discuss the archaeological impact, and implications of improvement work proposed for the access trackway to the English Heritage guardianship site of Tintagel castle from Tintagel village. The site of the work was the part of the trackway that ran past the ruins of a mill clinging to the northern valley side, an area of land taken into the guardianship site, as a consequence of which it was deemed necessary that an archaeological watching brief was undertaken. Features relating to the use of the mill in the early 19th century were revealed, although nothing was revealed of any earlier date, although the possibility did exist that medieval fabrics may have been incorporated into the structure.
