Abstract:		 A watching brief was required to monitor service trenching at the north-east corner of the Millennium Library site, and groundworks associated with the construction of steps at the front of the new buildings. The operation was conducted over a period of several weeks, with monitoring visits arranged by consultation with the contractor. In addition, a small excavation was carried out in order to record the position and condition of a previously undiscovered portion of a medieval undercroft associated with the former White Swan Inn.
