Abstract: |
An archaeological evaluation was carried out to the rear of the plot prior to the construction of a mortuary and chapel of rest in June 1994. It was hoped that the remains of structures or other features associated with the rear of the medieval tenement would be recovered. Evidence was recorded for three post-medieval pits and a modern shed and flower bed, but no earlier activity was indicated, and no finds of earlier than late 18th/early 19th century date were recovered. One of the pits was not bottomed and may thus have contained earlier material in its primary deposits, but this is unlikely.[AIP] |
