Abstract: |
Desk-based archaeological assessment of land at Green Street showed that, while the site lay close to the centre of early Northampton, its post-medieval and modern history was connected with the tanning industry. While observation of geotechnical test-pits showed that the ground level had been raised in modern times, individual workshops may have damaged any earlier remains present. The potential for medieval or earlier levels to have survived intact could not be ascertained without trial excavation. [Au] |
