Abstract: |
Archaeological excavations at Rules Shaft uncovered the remains of structures associated with one of the first engine houses to be constructed in Cornwall. These structures dated to c. 1745. It was also revealed that the structures were not built upon natural subsoils but were constructed upon existing mining upcast, suggesting that mining operations had been taking place around Rules Shaft prior to 1745. It was recommended that ground to the west of Rules Shaft should remain undisturbed during proposed shaft capping works. [AIP] |
