Abstract: |
An archaeological watching brief was maintained during groundwork associated with the construction of a small extension to an existing library. The greatest depth that groundwork achieved was 0.9m below the existing ground level. The uppermost 0.45m was composed of modern building rubble and soil likely to have been associated with the demolition of late post-medieval buildings that once fronted St. Peter's Grove. The lower 0.45m consisted of post-medieval loams and had similarities to evaluation work carried out previously nearby the site. No significant archaeological features or deposits were observed during the ground clearance and cutting of foundation trenches connected with the development. [Au(adp)] |
