Abstract: |
A watching brief was commenced on an area of excavations for the new Rugby Club. Removal of the sub soil revealed a cremation, all work was halted and the site hand cleaned. A further area was opened up to reveal a segment of road and two ditches and three cremations were located in one of the ditches with a fill of Samian and grey wares. Following the hand cleaning of the site three buildings were identified with five cremations and two infant burials. Finds suggest a general date of 2nd and 3rd century. A further ditch, a series of small pits and a small enclosure were also identified. [Au(abr)] |
