Abstract: |
This assessed the previous desk based assessment and walk over survey to present the cultural evidence for an Environmental Statement on the effects of the proposed road scheme. Settlement evidence from the Mesolithic onwards was recovered from the Impact Area or the Broad Study Area including Bronze Age barrows, Bronze Age/Iron Age settlement, a Roman pottery kiln, early medieval inhumations, an early medieval/medieval farmstead, a medieval fulling mill and manors and post-medieval industrial remains such as a paper mill and gunpowder mill. The historic landscape of the River Darent valley and the North Downs, included evidence from Roman Watling Street, a possible villa site, and medieval settlements. Impact assessments and mitigation options were presented. [AIP] |
