Abstract: |
An archaeological watching brief was carried out during groundwork for new development at HM Coastguard Maritime Rescue Co-ordination Centre (MRCC), Pendennis Point. Three areas were monitored, to the south of Half Moon Battery (and 18th century gun emplacement) and along the projected line of early 17th century earthwork defences. In all three areas the ground had been disturbed during the construction of Half Moon Battery and the existing MRCC building and landscaping of the site. No remains of the 17th century defences were identified but a stone wall was observed which could have been a parapet of the mid-19th century phase of Half Moon Battery. No other features or deposits of archaeological significance were identified. [Au] |
