Abstract: |
Cornwall Archaeological Unit were commissioned to undertake an archaeological survey of Poldice. The study area contained most of the upper section of the Poldice Valley, north west of Hale Mills, extending to Goongumpas, Crofthandy and Todpool. Poldice Mine had a long history of ore extraction (both tin and copper with small amounts of other ores). Records had survived from as far back as the 16th century, which made it one of the oldest and most important documented mine sites in Cornwall. Areas relating to mine structures were annotated on maps and recommendations made concerning the most effective management strategies available to Carrick District Council. [AIP] |
