Abstract: |
Excavations in 1842 located the site of a supposed Roman walled cemetery adjoining the east side of the Roman road from Rochester to Lympne. Numerous other Roman finds were known in the area including a bath-house and Roman tile and foundations. An archaeological evaluation in advance of an application for planning permission examined land east of Pested Bars Road. One likely and one possible Roman ditch was discovered, but no evidence was found of the cemetery. A more significant find was a pit containing sherds from two Early Anglo-Saxon vessels. [Au] |
