Abstract: |
The watching brief was carried out during clearance work for the capping a shaft, thought to be well, possibly medieval in date, which was observed to open up in 1998. The site was within the ramparts of the great 19th century artillery fortress (a Scheduled Ancient Monument) which occupies most of the summit of the Western Heights in Dover. The well could also have been 19th century in date relating to the fortress. No other features or finds were encountered during the work. [AIP] |
